An Excerpt From Pul Kanjari, Amritsar

As I walk through the village, I’m struck by the vibrant colors and sounds around me. From the bustling markets to the peaceful countryside, every corner of Pul Kanjari has something unique to offer. I’m here to explore the history and culture of this fascinating place, and I can’t wait to share my experiences with you. I met the locals, tried out new foods, and uncovered the hidden gems.

So sit back, relax, and let’s embark on this adventure full of history together!

Pul Kanjari, also known as Pul Moran, is a small historical village located near Amritsar, in Punjab. The town is known for its historic Sarai (inn) and mosque, built in the 18th century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire.

Since, I was made hostage by my co-traveler, and not told where we were heading, I knew nothing about the place. On the way, since he could not tolerate my continuous chatter, told me about the destination. I was mesmerized and happy to see the green fields. I had very little time to read about the place. We were fortunate enough to have met a local, who told us the two historic stories about the place. The first one is, how Pul Kanjari got its name.

It is a perfect destination for those who love history and architecture. Well, the history will definitely attract you. In this travel blog, I provide you with all the necessary information about the place, the history behind, and why one should visit it, including how to get there and the best time to visit.

History Behind Pul Kanjari

Pul Kanjari, Amritsar

Pul Kanjari was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the early 19th century. The Sarai was built to provide accommodation to travelers and traders who used to cross the nearby river. The Sarai was strategically located on the Lahore-Amritsar trade route and was an important trading hub during the British era.

Legend has it that the village derived its name from a courtesan named Moran, who was a favorite of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The maharaja used to visit her in the village, and one day, while crossing the nearby river, Moran lost her shoe and refused to perform for Maharaja. When the incident was brought notice to the Majaharaja ordered the construction of a bridge over the river, which came to be known as Pul Kanjari.

Another one is the India-Pakistan border. There have been attempts by Pakistan in the past where they have tried to capture the Pul Knajari post. Do you want to know more about this? Well, since I mid mess up the years here and there, I would like you to watch this Travel Vlog I made when I visited Pul Kanjari, last year.
